The First Lady of the Republic of Ghana, Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo earlier received her counterpart from the United States of America, Mrs. Melania Trump who is in Ghana at the start of her solo trip that will see her visit four African countries.
Aside Ghana, the visit, her first to Africa is part of a five-day African tour which will also see her make planned stops in Malawi, Kenya and Egypt.
Along with Ghana’s First Lady and some senior government officials, Mrs. Trump was welcomed by a group of school children waving flags and a colourful cultural display at the Kotoka International Airport.
Her tour to Ghana begun with a trip to the Greater Accra Regional Hospital in Accra, to highlight her interest in child welfare, and distributed gifts of teddy bears wrapped in baby blankets with her "Be Best" slogan, which she has chosen as the theme of her work as first lady.
"Her trip will focus on maternal and newborn care in hospitals, education for children, the deep culture and history woven into each African country, and how the United States is supporting each country on its journey to self-reliance.”
Mrs. Akufo-Addo later held closed door discussions with First Lady Trump at the Presidential Palace, The Jubilee House.
She is expected to visit the Emintsimadze Palace as well as embark on a private tour of the Cape Coast Castle in the Central Region.
