Accra, March 10, GNA - The First Lady and Founder of the Mother and Child Community Development Foundation, Mrs Theresa Kufuor on Thursday donated hospital equipment and items estimated at one billion cedis to the Ghana Health Service (GHS) in Accra.

The items were gifts to the First Lady's Foundation by Microcosm Limited in the United Kingdom and Mr Kwesi Amoakohene, an Accra-based businessman.

They include breast examination kits, Buruli bandages, gauze swaps, injection trays, hospital beds, monitors and blood storage facilities. The beneficiaries include Nkawie-Toase Hospital in the Atwima Nwabigya District, Dunkwa-On-Offin Hospital in the Upper Denkyira and Amasaman Health Post in the Ga West District.

Mrs Kufuor said the items were being offered to the Ghana Health Service so that they could be distributed to areas in need. She said the donation to Amasaman followed a promise she made to the health post some time ago.

Professor Agyeman Badu Akosa, Director-General, GHS, who received the equipment, said this was not the first time the foundation had assisted the service and commended it for its immense support. He pointed out that endemic areas of buruli ulcers had been selected to benefit from the donation.

"Treating of buruli ulcers is very expensive, we hope that these equipment would go a long way to help treat patients," he added.
