First-year university student before court for causing harm

Kumasi, April 6, GNA - A first-year student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Prince Kusi-Ankrah was on Tuesday arraigned before a Kumasi circuit court charged with causing harm.

He pleaded not guilty and was granted 30 million cedis bail to re-appear on May 6.

Police Chief Inspector Regina Kesewaah told the court, presided over by Mr Ernest Yao Obimpeh, that Kusi-Ankrah lived in the same vicinity with the complainant in the case who is now on admission at the hospital.

She said on March 27, this year, at about 1900 hours, the accused saw his sister named only as Naadia in the company of the complainant and another person.

Kusi-Ankrah, who could not bear the pain of seeing the sister in the company of the complainant, warned him never to get closer to her again.

This, she said degenerated into verbal exchanges and that tempers cooled down only after the intervention of some people in the neighbourhood.

The prosecution stated that later at about 2130 hours that same day, the accused sent for the complainant who was then resting in the house.

As he came out, Kusi-Ankrah who had armed himself slashed the right heel with a long cutlass commonly referred to as "langalanga". The complainant is now undergoing plastic surgery at the hospital.
