Fisherman jailed seven years for attempted defilement

Tema, Dec 21, GNA - William Kojo Tawiah, a 19-year-old fisherman, has been sentenced to seven years imprisonment by the Tema Circuit Court 'B' for attempting to defile a 14-year-old girl. He pleaded guilty to the charge. Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Mary Assunta told the court that on December 8 this year the victim, who was returning from attending to nature's call, heard that the accused was calling her but she refused to respond.

Tema, Dec 21, GNA - William Kojo Tawiah, a 19-year-old fisherman, has been sentenced to seven years imprisonment by the Tema Circuit Court 'B' for attempting to defile a 14-year-old girl. He pleaded guilty to the charge. Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Mary Assunta told the court that on December 8 this year the victim, who was returning from attending to nature's call, heard that the accused was calling her but she refused to respond. Chief Inspector Assunta said the accused rushed on the victim and got hold of her, pushed her onto the ground and tried to remove her trousers. The prosecutor said the victim screamed and a passer-by rushed in and saw the convict lying on the victim half naked. When he was arrested he admitted the offence but said he was drunk at the time of the incident.
