Five Held Over Cocaine

Five people, who attempted to smuggle various quantities of cocaine to European destinations, have been arrested at the Kotoka International Airport.

The suspects, Thaddeus Ngozi Akpaka, 42; Adamu Osmanu, 25; Augustine Obinwa Edeh, 30; Issac Bediako, 45; and Mondisus Nidimakor, 27, are currently in custody pending further investigations. They were arrested between January 21 and February 13, 2006.

A source at the Narcotics Control Board told the paper in an interview that Akpaka, a Nigerian, expelled 110 pellets, a total of 1.1 kilogrammes after his arrest.

With regard to the other suspects, the source said Osmanu, who is a Ghanaian, swallowed 56 pellets and concealed 998 grammes of cocaine in his pair of shoes.

It said another suspect, who also had a talisman around his waist, told investigators that Joe promised to provide the ticket on condition that he took the drugs to someone in the United Kingdom.

The source said Edeh, a Nigerian, expelled 43 pellets of cocaine after his arrest, while Nidimakor, also Nigerian, expelled 73 pellets after his arrest and claimed he was promised 3,000 Euros if he successfully delivered it.

It said Bediako, a Ghanaian, who was traveling on a Canadian passport, expelled 35 pellets of cocaine after his arrest.
