FIVE persons died on the spot while several others sustained various degrees of injury when a Volvo cargo truck on which they were travelling from Techiman to Wa was involved in an accident at Atrenso near Aworowa at the weekend. The bodies of the deceased, two female adults and three children, all of whom are yet to be identified, have been deposited at the Techiman Holy Family Hospital mortuary.

According to the Wenchi Divisional Police Commander, Chief Supt Ofosu Mensah Gyeabour, the truck, with registration number AS 4973 P, which was loaded with passengers and goods, plunged into a deep pothole, skidded off the road and somersaulted several times.

He said the injured passengers have also been admitted at the same hospital for treatment while the driver of the truck is helping in investigations.

Meanwhile, the divisional commander has appealed to people whose relatives travelled from Techiman to Wa during that period and have not returned to contact the Techiman Police or the staff of the Techiman Holy Family Hospital to identify the deceased or the injured passengers.
