Five men electrocuted at Abor

Abor, Jan. 22, GNA - Five men have been electrocuted at Abor when a high-tension electricity cable fell on them.

They men who were engaged to connect electricity to a private house at Avenopeme in the Akatsi District were on Monday electrocuted when a high-tension electricity cable snapped and fell on them. The victims were, Kwesitse Pomador, 30, Fofo Agbomaklu, 25, Kwesi Dorsu 25, Nani Tamakloe, 40 and Dela Amankwa 28.

Six other victims were treated and discharged at the Sacred Heart Hospital at Abor while Adjei Gleve 21, whose condition was critical has been referred to the Volta Regional Hospital in Ho. Mr Victor Agorsor, Assemblyman for the area, was believed to have engaged the services of the 12 men to connect power to his poultry farm. Eleven people engaged by the assemblyman including 4 of the deceased persons were his relatives except Dela Amankwah who was said to have worked with a private company that was extending power to some communities.

The last of the 13 poles the men were erecting close to the high tension lines fell on the lines, one of which got cut and fell on the victims, killing three instantly and two others died later at the hospital.

The bodies of the five were being kept at the Sacred Heart mortuary for autopsy.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) D. K. Sackey, in charge of Akatsi District Police, confirmed the story when contacted by GNA. Meanwhile, Mr Agorsor, who appeared before the Aflao Circuit Court on Wednesday, charged with unlawful damage and negligently causing harm was remanded in police custody to re-appear on Friday June 23, this year.

His plea was not taken.
