Koforidua, May 13, GNA- A circuit court at Koforidua remanded five suspects for allegedly lynching an unidentified man at Ahabasu, near Otrokper in the Eastern Region on suspicion of attempting to kidnap an eight-year-old son of one of the suspects.

Daniel Kwao, Kwadwo Amanor, Isaac Tetteh, Moses Narh and Joseph Kwao whose pleas were not taken would re-appear at court on May 28, 2008. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Theophilus Nyadu, told the court that on May 5 at about 1900 hours, Daniel Kwao, lodged a complaint at the Otrokper police station that an unknown man, who turned out to be the deceased, attempted to kidnap his son.

Prosecution said moments later, Kwao went back to the police with the claim that the suspected kidnapper had been apprehended and placed in the house of the youth leader of Otrokper, Ebenezer Terkper. DSP Nyadu told the court that whilst the police were preparing to go the youth leader's house, Kwao insisted to take the lead to ascertain whether the people were ready to hand the suspect over to the Police. Prosecution said the police arrested two suspects upon receiving a tip off from a sub-chief of the town that a group of about seven persons had abandoned a dead body on the road in front of his house and later apprehended the other two suspects at a hide out. DSP Nyadu said police investigations indicated that the deceased was lynched for attempting to kidnap the son of Kwao. 13 May 08
