Civil Society Groups (CSOs) including the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers Ghana (COPEC-Ghana) will direct their frustrations at President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo if he fails to intervene in the sale of over one million litres of contaminated fuel by the Alfred Obeng Boateng-led Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST), to oil marketing companies, who, in turn, sold it to consumers at the pumps, COPEC CEO, Duncan Amoah, has said.

According to him, the contamination of the fuel was deliberate on the part of Mr Obeng Boateng.

The alleged act, he said, smacks of criminality, for which the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) and the National Security must act by arresting the ex-MD of BOST.

Last year, BOST, under the leadership of Mr Obeng Boateng allegedly sold contaminated fuel to Movenpiina, an unlicensed oil marketing company.

Mr Amoah told Chief Jerry Forson on Ghana Yensom on Accra 100.5FM Monday, 17 September 2018 that: “EOCO and the National Security must intervene and arrest Alfred Obeng for questioning. He must be made to account for the over one million litres of the contaminated fuel that cannot be accounted for. The current CEO of BOST should not be blamed, let us blame Alfred Obeng for the issue.”

Mr Amoah said Mr Obeng Boateng “must tell us the fuel stations he sold the contaminated fuel to and the amount he got from the sale. If he is unable to account for it, then that alone is enough for the state security to go after him.”

He added: “The anger will be re-directed at President Akufo-Addo if he doesn’t act within this week to deal with the people who sold the contaminated fuel onto the market. As we speak, about one million litres of contaminated fuel cannot be accounted for.

“We all know contamination can occur but not in large quantities like what we saw under Alfred Obeng. Even when they do, they are treated before they are sold, but Alfred didn’t treat it, yet sold it.”
