Former President of the Gadangme Council, Mr K B Asante has advised the Ga Traditional Council to focus on solving the bigger problems plaguing the Ga people rather than exerting so much energy into attempting to stop a planned vigil meant to protest against the worsening power crisis.
The Traditional Council has petitioned the Ghana Police Service to put a damper on the #dumsormuststop vigil scheduled for May 16, meant to put pressure on the Mahama Government to solve the three-year-old power crisis.
The Council argues that the vigil, which coincides with the Ga people’s annual ban on drumming and noise making, will frustrate their customary practices.
However, Mr Asante told Kasapa FM’s Fiifi Banson in an interview on the maiden edition of Anopa Kasapa, the morning show of the EIB’s newly-branded mass market staple on Monday that: “I’m not sure whether the council is properly constituted.”
“We have so many problems in the Ga State and we should fix it.
“There are so many problems, even about the Ga Mantse – one day you hear there is a Ga Mantse; the next day you hear there isn’t one.
“So far as I know, one has been properly installed, but there are problems, which have been created by others and these are problems, which I think the Ga Traditional Council of Gadangme should address,” Mr Asante said.
He stressed that: “As of now I think there are bigger problems in the Ga state to deal with.”
The vigil, led by actress Yvonne Nelson, is being supported by several other celebrities including actress Lydia Forson, and rapper Sarkodie. Both the University of Ghana and Total’s On The Run, have denied the use of their premises as a converging point for the vigil.
