Flashback: Not all rich persons like me are thieves – Kennedy Agyapong

Last year controversial Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong speaking in an interview on his Net 2 TV, called on Ghanaians to stop criminalising successful persons since it is not all rich people such as himself acquire their wealth through corrupt means.

According to the business magnate, a lot of successful people were targeted and treated badly during 1971 and 1972 coups because they were deemed to be thieves. He said such stories told over the years has caused people to give up on establishing businesses in the country out of fear of being victims.

New Patriotic Party (NPP) firebrand, Kennedy Agyapong has called on Ghanaians to stop criminalizing successful people in the country because not all rich persons are thieves.

According to the controversial lawmaker for Assin Central Constituency, not every business magnate in the society got his/her money through dubious means adding that majority of them acquired their riches by dent of hard work.

He bemoaned the treatment meted out successful people during the 1971 and 1972 coups where factories and companies were collapsed because they were deemed thieves.

The business mogul said history about these coups which targeted businesses have been narrated to people hence the fear to establish businesses in their homeland country.

Speaking in an interview with Net 2 TV monitored by MyNewsGh.com, the Assin central constituency MP said, ‘Successful coups especially the 1971 and 1972 coups targeted at Ghanaian entrepreneurs, it collapsed businesses in every corner of the country, talk of Kwahu’s Motors, Opoku Transport, Siaw Tata, B.A Manu, B.A Mensah all of them, so its passed on history narrated to people that is why majority of people save their monies abroad, every successful person was criminalized during these coups so it’s difficult for every Ghanaian to be so committed’.

Mr Agyapong observed that the refusal by business moguls to invest in Ghana has paved way for foreigners to dominate the Ghanaian business sector.

He explained that he is not against foreigners investing in Ghana but citizens should be encouraged to establish businesses without being tagged as thieves.

Mr. Agyapong prayed that Ghana will have a small portion of the global market where loans will be accessible for people who want to go into manufacturing.

‘I want to encourage Ghanaians to take their own destinies into their hands, Ghanaians can also do it too, by being self –disciplined,’ he urged.

Mr Agyapong who has been tagged a thief called on Ghanaians to stop treating successful people with disdain because of their riches saying not every rich person who has been able to build mansions, bought luxurious vehicles is a thief.

The loudmouthed legislator who owns a conglomerate of businesses, bemoaned employees of rich people who have the notion that their employers stole money somewhere to establish their businesses.

He advised employees of successful people to work their heart outs when given the opportunity.
