Flood victims: Public support for identification of bodies needed

The Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has called on the public to help identify people who died at the Circle Goil Filling Station fire disaster.

The Hospital said scores of bodies of people who got drowned in the ensuing floods after the torrential rains have also been deposited at its mortuary and need identification.

Mr Mustapha Salifu, Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital Public Relations Officer, told Ghana News Agency (GNA) that another 20 people have been rushed to the hospital from the disaster area.

He said they suffered from various degrees of injuries and are receiving medical attention.

Mr Salifu said health professionals at the hospital are working around the clock to deal with the emergency situation, adding that their only challenge is the flooding of the children’s Out-Patient Department, which is now serving as the main consulting room.

Nii Kotei, a disaster victim who was traveling from Cape Coast to Tema, told the GNA that when the vehicle got to circle the traffic was unbearable.

He said: “I decided to get down from the car and maneuvre my way to the other side of the filling station.

“I saw people moving to the filling station and I climbed a wall, then I heard an explosion but people were still moving to the filling station as the fire started.

“So I entered the water but could not stay there for long so I came up a bit and that’s how I got my face and some parts of my arm burnt,” he said.
