Ngani (N/R), Sept 26, GNA - Floods have destroyed large acres of farms and displaced a number of people in some parts of the Wendi District.

The hardest hit areas include Buariyili, Tindan-Tua, Minduyili, Baggbani, Nasa, Tindan, Ngani and Baato settlements. Alhaji Iddrisu Yusif, District Co-ordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Mr John Kwabena Nborignam, assembly member for Ngani, and Alhaji Alhassan Iddi Sulemana, presiding member of the Wendi District Assembly, have toured some of the affected areas to see the extent of damage.

Alhaji Sulemana appealed to the Regional Co-ordinating Council and NADMO to come to the aid of the victims. The District NADMO Co-ordinator advised all those living along the banks of River Oti to move to safer areas while government works for their resettlement.

Meanwhile, the Zabzugu-Tatale District is reported to have been cut off from the rest of the region for the past week following persistent rains and flooding that have caused extensive damage to property.

Briefing the GNA at Wendi, Alhaji Amadu Sonna, chairman of the Zabzugu-Tatale constituency of the NDC, said Sheini, Sabare, Woribogu and Nkpali are among the worst hit areas.

Large stocks of yam and other foodstuffs have been washed away while farms along River Oti have been submerged. The bridge over Oti, which was commissioned by President Rawlings in 1996 remains very firm but the road leading to it has been rendered impassable by the floods.
