More than 30-acres of farmlands and a number of Pumping Machines used by farmers in their activities in six communities in Effutu municipality have been washed away by floods after the recent downpour across the Country.

The rains, which led to the overflow of Ayensu River in Effutu swept away the Pepper, Rice, Cassava, Okro, Maize, Tomatoes, Coconuts and Onion farms together with the machines running into several thousands of Cedis.

The farms belong to farmers at Osubonpanyin, Ateitu, Gyanganadze, Gyahadze, Nsuekyir, Tuansah-Sankro villages at Winneba.

Mr. Sampson Quartey, a farmer and former Assemblyman of Essuekyir- Atakyedo electoral Area whose farm was affected on behalf of the farmers appealed to the Government and organisations to support them.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) Mr. Samuel Annobil Baidoo, Effutu Municipal National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) Director said the floods also destroyed the property of over 100 people whose buildings were sited in swampy areas and in water ways in the Winneba Township.

He said his outfit recorded the damage caused by the floods and have forwarded their findings to the appropriate quarters for the necessary attention and action.

He urged people living along the banks of the Ayensu River, the Lagoon and other water logged areas in the municipality to advise themselves, to avoid being victims of flood disasters, since the rains had not ceased.

Mr Baidoo also cautioned developers who build near rivers and lagoons and on water ways to desist from the practice because their actions contributed to flooding in the country.
