Cape Coast, July 9, GNA - Fifteen people in 15 houses in five communities were rendered homeless and properties destroyed following a heavy downpour on Wednesday night.

The affected communities, which are under about four feet of water, are Abakam, Ehiabobio, Duakro and Ablanta, near Cape Coast and C. P, a suburb of Elmina and pupils of the Abakam Cran Presbyterian Primary and JHS could not attend classes.

Ms Patricia Kwakye, the headmistress of the school, told the GNA that the flood had destroyed all the school's textbooks and other valuable items and pleaded with the Ghana Education Service for assistance by providing temporary structures such as tents to enable classes to go on until the flood waters recede.

The chief of the area said the rains had been severe and that the people could not relocate as they had no where to go. Mr Peter Dery, Cape Coast Metropolitan Coordinating Director, gave the assurance that officials of NADMO and the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) were studying the situation with a view to assisting the victims. 0
