The 2012 Progressive People’s Party (PPP) Parliamentary Candidate for the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) Constituency, Mrs. Doreen Ewuraba Mansa Manieson, has resigned from the party.
Addressing a press conference at Elmina on Tuesday “Just to clear the air”, Mrs. Manieson cited intimidation and embarrassment from the party among others as the reasons for her resignation.
She, however, declined to further disclose the issues that informed her decision for quitting the party.
She also refuted rumours that she had left the party because she lost the party’s primaries, indicating that, she withdrew from the contest three days before the election was held on Tuesday March 24 this year, but her picture was not removed from the ballot paper.
Asked if the party had responded to her resignation, Mrs. Manieson said she gave room for dialogue after she withdrew from the party’s primaries but she was yet to receive a response from the party.
“I have the constitutional right to decide which party to join, anyway”, she stated.
Mrs. Manieson emphasized that she had not endorsed any politician or party to whom her sympathizers should give their votes to yet and hinted of plans to find another avenue through which she could serve the KEEA Constituency.
“The journey continues. There will be a move towards a destination that will meet our aspirations and expectations. No matter what happens, you’ll hear from me about the plan for moving forward, she stressed.
She indicated her commitment to helping the constituency through capacity building, empowerment activities and good stewardship and accountability, saying “I will still serve you and I vow to that effect”.
She expressed gratitude to her family, sympathizers and anyone who believed in her ability to help develop the constituency and encouraged them to “stand firm- no barrier of fear”
Mrs. Manieson, an Entrepreneur and co-founder of City and Guilds Academy was made the candidate for the constituency after party members had cast a vote of no confidence in Mr. Annan, who actually won the party’s 2012 primaries, but she could not win the seat for the party.
On Wednesday, December 10 last year, Mrs. Manieson filed her nomination to contest the primaries with Mr. John Sterling, brother-in-law of Dr. Papa Kwesi Ndoum, the party’s founder and the 2012 flag bearer of the party.
