"Fonu won the NDC deputy national youth election genuinely"

Our attention has been drawn to some unscrupulous calculated plans to overturn the outcome of the Deputy National Youth Election that was conducted during the NDC National Youth Delegates' Conference held in Kumasi about four (4) weeks ago. The outcome which saw Mr. Kwabena Courage Barlon and Mr. James Kofi Fonu Kpatakpa, victorious with 513 and 325 votes respectively was challenged by Mrs Abigail Mensah Elorm who felt she was cheated in Kumasi. Owing to the status quo, the Tertiary Educational Institutions Network (TEIN) of the NDC in the University for Development Studies wishes to caution in advance any self-centered individual in this allegation to drop his or her deadly ammunitions in the bid to deny Mr James Kofi Fonu Kpatakpa of his constitutional mandate.

Mr James Kofi Fonu Kpatakpa has shown the desired maturity over this useless allegation and we have realized that some people want to take him for granted. We will champion this course duly regardless of any intimidation. In fact, Mrs Abigail Mensah Elorm has made our victory unpleasant but we strongly believe that "posterity will judge all of us".

Setting the record straight

The results were collated from 5 different tables (polling stations) of which Mr Kwabena Courage Barlon led throughout while Mrs Abigail Mensah Elorm also followed in count of the first 2 results from Table 1 and 2.This, caused her allies to jubilate and to an extent, gave her (Mrs Abigail Mensah Elorm) the high hope of winning. Unfortunately on her (Mrs Abigail Mensah Elorm) part, Mr James Kofi Fonu Kpatakpa whipped her miserably throughout the remaining tables and when the results were collated she (Mrs Abigail Mensah Elorm) lost by six (6) votes. Her agents asked for retabulation and for three (3) times, the results remained unchanged, thus she lost by six (6) votes.

Surprisingly, she and her team including the polling agents went out of the hall and came 30 minutes after the ballot boxes have been taken out of the center demanding for a recount. Mr James Kofi Fonu Kpatakpa's polling agents including the delegates refused the recount because the boxes were brought unsealed. Honestly, we doubted the integrity of the ballot boxes. Who in his normal senses will allow a recount in this strange situation?

Mrs Abigail Mensah Elorm and her hooligans prevented the Electoral Commission from declaring the results in the Conference Hall. Later, the Presiding Officer,Mr Paul Boateng declared the results which saw Mr Kwabena Courage Barlon and Mr James Kofi Fonu Kpatakpa, victorious with 513 and 325 votes respectively with Mrs Abigail Mensah Elorm who trailed with 319 votes. The other aspirants also shared the remaining 441 votes and 1 rejected ballot, making a total of 1,599 total votes.  Taking a critical look at the above illustrations, one will opt that Mr James Kofi Fonu Kpatakpa be sworn-in as one of the Deputy National Youth Organizers. We can't fathom why Mrs Abigail Mensah Elorm will want to disrespect the delegates who have traveled from their constituencies to Kumasi to decide for the youth front of our great party. We wonder why a true social democrat will choose to drag the image of the National Democratic Congress in the mud, when indeed the delegates have spoken the true voice of the people from all indications.

It has also come to our notice that the National Executive Committee (NEC) has sworn-in Mr Kwabena Courage Barlon as the only Deputy National Youth Organizer but refused to swear-in Mr James Kofi Fonu Kpatakpa on the basis of the needless allegation made by Mrs Abigail Mensah Elorm who in actual fact lost the election. Respectfully, it is bad to select only 1 aspirant from among 9 aspirants when the guideline was to select 2 candidates by the baron of the thumb (voting) on the same ballot paper. Statistically, it is a blunder and for that matter very pathetic to swear-in only 1 candidate. To avoid further actions, we humbly call on NEC to immediately swear-in Mr James Kofi Fonu Kpatakpa so that he can quickly galvanize his experienced strategic plans with Hon Siidi Abubakar Musah and Mr Kwabena Courage Barlon to give our party another victory in 2016.

We are seriously prepared to reject any dubious move to alter the choice of the people unconstitutionally. The choice of the people can never be changed and for these reasons we need true justice from our leaders.  We therefore call on our noble delegates who are the paramount decision makers to stand boldly for their votes to be counted in the midst of this disrespectful and unfair treatment. Comrades, no single individual can deny Mr James Kofi Fonu Kpatakpa of his entitlement as far as the foundations and the constitution of our party exist. Mr James Kofi Fonu Kpatakpa won the election genuinely and must be sworn-in accordingly.

Thank you.
