Principal State Attorney, Saeed Abdul Shakur, has provided details of police investigations into the murder of Eric Johnson, owner of the Royal Cosy Hills Hotel.

The prime suspect in the murder was sentenced to life imprisonment.

According to the State Attorney, bloodstained footprints and fingerprints belonging to the prime suspect, Elisha Mahama were discovered in the room of the deceased after the murder.

Shakur further disclosed that the prints were fresh, even though the suspect had told the police he had not visited the deceased’s house for 40 days.

He insisted that the evidence proved the suspect had committed the gruesome crime.

Speaking to the media on October 15, 2025, he said, “… His bloodstained footprints are in the man's room; his fingerprints are in the man's room. What are they doing there? And he said that for over 40 days he had not entered the place, but these [footprints and his fingerprints] were fresh in the pool of blood. He could only be the one who killed Eric Johnson.”

Shakur, who seemed pleased with the court’s verdict, described it as “fair and just.”

He stated that, inasmuch as justice had been served through the courts, the life of the deceased could not be brought back.

He added that any attempts by the suspect, Elisha Mahama, to appeal his sentence will be contested, stating that the court’s verdict was the right decision.

“The jury has returned a guilty verdict and I think that is fair and just,” he said.

“This was a case that everybody in this country was interested in. We cannot get Eric Johnson back, but at least justice is served. As for the issue of appeals, appeals court is also our playground, just like the Supreme Court. Wherever they want to go, we are sure this is an impeccable decision that cannot be impugned at any level so, we are ready,” he added.

Elisha Mahama was unanimously found guilty of murder by a seven-member jury and sentenced to life imprisonment by the High Court in WA on October 15, 2025.
