Foreign Minister leaves for Iran

Accra, Aug. 30, GNA - The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Akwasi Osei-Adjei, MP, will depart Accra for Tehran, Iran, on Friday, August 31, this year to participate in the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Ministerial Meeting on Human Rights and Cultural Diversity, September 3 - 4.

The meeting, which is being convened to discuss issues relating to the protection of human rights and the respect for cultural diversity and the cultural rights of all, will be taking place under a mandate established under the NAM Plan of Action adopted at the 14th NAM Summit held in Hanava, Cuba, in September, last year.

According to an official statement, Mr Osei-Adjei, would address the Ministerial Meeting and to reiterate Ghana's resolve and demonstrated commitment of fulfilling all international obligations relating to the promotion and protection of human rights.

The Minister would caution that cultural diversity could not be used as an excuse by State to avoid implementing universal human rights as the minimum protection necessary to safeguarding human dignity. Officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ghana's Embassy in Saudi Arabia and Permanent Mission of Ghana in New York and Geneva would accompany the Minister who would return to Accra on Thursday, September 6.
