Former President John Agyekum Kufuor, has been appointed Chancellor of the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) at Tarkwa in the Western Region, the University Council announced.
He would preside over all functions, and activities of the school, and confer honorary degrees among others.
The statement signed by Dr Stephen S. Yirenkyi, UMAT Council Chairman said, the council of the University of Mines and Technology at its 62nd (regular) Meeting held on 15th September, 2017 appoint Former President John Agyekum Kufuor as the chancellor of the university.
President Kofour has thus become the first chancellor appointed by the university. The appointment makes President Kofour the Titular Head of the University and he will preside at the ceremonies of the university and confer on qualified persons all degrees, diplomas and certificates awarded by the university.
The university council, acting on a recommendations of a search committee appointed President Kofour to a first term of five years and to be renewed for another term of five years. His appointed took effect from 1st November, 2017.
A special congregation will be held in the University for the Investiture of the Chancellor.
