Former President of Mauritius visits Ghana

Accra, Sept. 24, GNA - The Former President of Mauritius, Mr Karl Auguste Offmann has arrived in the country to undertake a five-day Residency at the University of Ghana, Legon, under the African Presidential Archives and Research Centre (APARC).

The APARC programme, which is coordinated by Boston University, of which the University of Ghana is an affiliate institution, seeks to promote intercontinental dialogue and to demonstrate to current African leaders the contributions they can make as statesmen after leaving office.

A statement Mrs Stella A. Amoa, Acting Director, Public Affairs Directorate, University of Ghana signed said the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Cliffor N.B Tagoe, would receive Mr Offmann and lead him on a tour of the University.

It said Mr Offmann would also pay a courtesy call on the Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama as well as former President Jerry John Rawlings, who was his colleague-participant of the APARC programme. The statement said Mr Offmann would lead informal sessions at the University on the topics: "Challenges of leadership in Africa," and "The future of Africa's Development: Anticipating the Challenges". He will also deliver a special public lecture on "The Outlook for Africa: Possibilities of Social and Economic Development for our Time and Future Generations," at the Great Hall on September 26.
