The Forum for Accountable Governance has petitioned the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to investigate alleged corruption linked to the 13th All African Games.

The games, which took place from March 4 to March 23, 2024, involved a substantial expenditure of $245 million.

The group led by Kwame Owusu Danso, the Convener has raised concerns about the transparency, accountability, and value for money in the allocation of funds.

He also highlighted potential breaches in procurement processes, conflicts of interest, and other forms of corruption.

Danso expressed his confidence in the OSP Kissi Agyebeng's ability to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation.

"I have so much confidence in the Office of the Special Prosecutor. We are all law-abiding citizens, and if the investigations are conducted properly and reveal no corruption-related issues in the organization of the All-African Games, I will be satisfied that I have done my duty for the good people of this country," he stated.

Meanwhile, the Director-General of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), Prof. Amin Alhassan, has refuted claims made by the Sports Ministry regarding the funding received for the coverage of the games.

During a Public Accounts Committee session on August 19, Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif claimed that GBC had been paid over $3 million for its coverage of the 13th African Games.

However, Prof. Alhassan clarified that GBC received only $105,000, which was intended to support the broadcaster's decision to dedicate an entire channel to the African Games, thereby suspending normal programming on GTV Sports Plus.

This statement was made in response to concerns raised by Committee member Sam George about unpaid debts to the technical staff who worked on the games.
