Fosu-Odumase (C/R) July 01, GNA- Mr Jonathan Alabi, development analyst of the European Union projects, has inaugurated a 217 million-cedi classroom block for Fosu-Odumase in the Assin North District. The block was constructed under Phase Three of the Fifth Micro EU Projects. The assembly and beneficiary communities contributed 25 per cent of the cost with the EU providing 75 per cent.

Mr Alabi said out of the 303 EU projects undertaken in the Central Region the Assin North and Assin South districts had 36. Two clinics were built at Assin Nsuta and Awuro Camp, a warehouse at Assin Fosu, three boreholes at Fosu Roman Hill and three-unit classroom at Assin Asamankese. Mr Alabi expressed concern about the lack of commitment of the beneficiary communities towards the projects and told them to disabuse their minds that the projects were wholly donor funded.

Mr Isaac Edumadze, the Central Regional Minister, in a speech read for him, commended the EU for sinking mechanized boreholes in nine communities in the Assin area.

Mr Kwabena Karikari Apau, the District Chief Executive, said the EU contributed 732.6 million cedis whiles the assembly and beneficiary communities contributed 283 million cedis towards the implementation of the Phase Three of the Fifth Micro Projects in the district. He said the delay in the release of funds and the reluctance of communities to support the projects with communal labour were some of the challenges that delayed some of the projects and appealed to them to embrace the projects to enable the assembly to benefit from more EU projects.
