Accra, Feb 14, GNA - Volta Foundation, a development-oriented organization, is to be launched at Ho on Saturday with the aim to push for the rapid completion of all on going development projects within the Volta Region as a means of creating job opportunities for the unemployed youth.

High on the agenda of the Foundation is the revival of the Aveyime Quality Grain Project, Afife Rice Project, and the Aveyime Cattle Ranch among others, which the Foundation said has the potential to cumulatively impact on the socio-economic well-being of the people in those communities.

Besides, the Foundation would also identify new and viable projects and assist in resource moblisation, both local and internationally to bring the projects into fruition.

It will also encourage the districts through the assemblies and the District Chief Executives (DCEs) to package their respective districts into a working document dubbed the economic Potential of the Districts for the sole objective of marketing each district.

Briefing the press ahead of the launch, Mr Raymond Okudzeto, President of the Foundation, said all abandoned projects must be brought back on stream to enable people in those communities secure gainful employment.

He held that the development of the region had stalled over the years because of the failure of successive governments to pay particular attention to the economic and development potential of the Region. "The time has come for the citizens of the Region to take up the mantle and stop the reliance on government for the development of the region. We must take the bull by the horns and shoulder the responsibility of the development of the region."

While admitting that the Volta region needed help, Mr Okudzeto was quick to add that no help was going to come unless, the citizens roll up their sleeves and seek to develop the region.

"Through the efforts of the Foundation, we hope to change attitudes. We need to learn to work together to bring industries, farms, universities, technical colleges, hospitals and infrastructure to our region."

Mr Okudzeto tasked all citizens of the region, irrespective of their political affiliations to embrace the Foundation and bring their ideas to bear in promoting and unleashing the potentials of the region. "I called on all professionals from the Region to begin a serious consideration of giving back to the region a little bit of themselves in terms of time, resources and ideas," he added. Ministers of State, Members of the Diplomatic Corps, Chiefs and the public are expected to attend the launch on Saturday. 14 Feb. 06
