Former Central Regional Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Bernard Allotey Jacobs, has advised his party NDC to accept August 4 as Founders' Day and forget about scrapping it when they win the elections.

According to him, the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) have at least found a way in celebrating their heroes with the August 4 Founders' Day.

Mr Allotey Jacobs who was speaking on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo' indicated that, the 'Busia-Danquah-Dombo' tradition believes they are the originators of the independence struggle of Ghana before Nkrumah was brought into the picture.

He said, "We should recognise the fact that it was Kwame Nkrumah who turbocharged the independence of Ghana at a Ferrari top speed."

"If they are celebrating August 4 as the day that the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC) was founded, I have nothing against it but will that stay in our statute for long," he quizzed.

Referring to the independence struggle of the United States, Mr Allotey Jacobs said George Washington, the founder of the United States of America had five other people with him during the struggle but today, George Washington is recognised as the founder of the United States of America.

"As Ghanaians let's accept the holiday for the other 'Big Five' which is the August 4....at least we have their statues and names written on our national edifices....but the founder of Ghana is Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah," he emphasised.
