Founding Fathers of Anloga in Kumasi remembered

Kumasi, Oct.14, GNA-Citizens of the Volta Region resident in the Ashanti Region on Sunday organized a durbar to remember the founding fathers whose vision and efforts led to the establishment of the Anloga Township in Kumasi.

The durbar which was organized by the Anloga Chieftaincy Council in collaboration with the Voltarian Coordinating Council was attended by people from all walks of life amidst pomp and pageantry. Addressing the gathering to mark the day in Kumasi on Sunday, Togbuiga Mawufe Ame Fugah, Paramount Chief of Voltarians in Ashanti and Brong-Ahafo regionS observed that the spirit of togetherness exhibited by their forefathers was waning and needed to be revived. He therefore, reminded community chiefs and leaders of residents from the Volta Region in Ashanti and Brong-Ahafo to continue to work for the peace and harmony and liaise effectively with their landlords to improve and accelerate the hopes and aspiration of the people. "Let the achievements of our forefathers spur us on to forge ahead in peace and unity so that tomorrow we may have more of the Anlogas, Hos, Vanes, Kpandos, Jasikans and Kete Krachis around here and elsewhere working assiduously towards national reconstruction."

Togbuiga Fugah said the spirit that brought their fathers together to think of building a township and its industrial complex in the Ashanti Region and eventually naming it in honour of Anloga in the Volta Region could not pass without being mentioned by all well-meaning people not only of Volta decent but all Ghanaians. "This feat could not have been achieved without the cordial and collaborative relationship that existed between our fathers and their landlords and today Anloga and its industrial complex which started humbly about 60 years ago has become a cosmopolitan town within the Kumasi Metropolis", he said.

Togbuiga Fugah expressed gratitude to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene through the Amakomhene and his elders for the release of the land which hitherto was a farmland for settlement of the "Voltarians." Trgbui Tetteh, paramount chief of Ewes in Goaso area in the Brong-Ahafo region on behalf of the 106 chiefs and opinion leaders in the two regions commended Tobuiga Fugah for his initiative and sterling leadership qualities which, he said, should be emulated by all. 14 Oct. 07
