Four members of staff of the Asamankese District of ECG have been dismissed for acts of malfeasance against the company.
A statement from ECG said the offences included collecting monies from customers without issuing receipts, selling application forms without accounting to the company, executing illegal and unauthorised service extensions, diverting materials and carrying out unauthorised extensions.
The four officers are Mr. Francis Nii Tackie, District Manager, Mr. Francis Tetteh Osei, Technician Engineer, Mr. Alfred K. Bossman, District Technical Officer and Mr. Felix Asare, Assistant Technical Officer.
The statement said findings revealed that the District Manager condoned with the District Technical Officer to dupe unsuspecting customers of large sums of money. He also caused an extension of supply to a wood-processing factory, Tigplex Limited, when the customer had paid ?4 million out of ?9.5 million, without making any arrangement for the payment of the outstanding amount.
Mr. Francis Tetteh Ofei, Technical Engineer, was found guilty of supervising the execution of illegal service extensions in partnership with customers. He also diverted materials to carry out unauthorised extensions.
The statement said Mr. Bossman, was implicated in acts of impropriety. He is said to have cheated prospective customers and ECG by collecting money from customers without issuing receipts to them. He also collected ?500,000 from a customer and gave him a direct service connection without a meter. Mr. Felix Asare, Assistant Technician Engineer, was the advisor on most of the illegal services and collected various sums of money for illegal connection.
The statement concluded, "The Management of ECG sees this as an act of gross impropriety and wants to declare to all members of staff in no uncertain terms that it will not entertain any act of impropriety by any staff."
