Four Ghanaian Illegals Nabbed In Swaziland

Swaziland -- Four Ghanaian illegal immigrants have been arrested since the police embarked in operation 'Sweep Clean Campaign'.

In all, at least close to 40 illegals were nabbed

Police Public Relations Officer Superintendent Vusi Masuku said in Manzini alone, 31 Mozambicans were arrested yesterday after being found without the relevant documents of staying in the country.

“We also managed to nab two people from Cameroon and four from Ghana as well as a Zambian and a South African all of whom were found to be lacking all the relevant documents of being in the country,” said Superintendent Masuku.

Superintendent Masuku further disclosed that the Manzini police also arrested two suspects in connection with a string of cases ranging from house breaking and theft.

“The two suspects are aged 18 and 19. They are suspected to have had a hand in the break-in at a salon in Makholweni, Manzini. It was discovered that the stolen items could amount to over E50 000,” he said.

He said one of the two suspects was arrested at Makholweni with his companion in crime nabbed at New Village the same day.

The police mouthpiece said the operation would continue in the next few months.

The operation also involved members of the Umbutfo Swaziland Defence Force from around the Manzini region.

Supt. Masuku said each of the aliens were fined E500 or five months in prison.

In Nhlangano yesterday, during the operation, six people were arrested for illegal liquor trading.

“In the operation conducted in the region four people got arrested for illegal possession of dagga. Police also managed to track down a wanted suspect in connection with the theft of a water tank with a carrying capacity of 5000 litres,” said Supt. Masuku.

He further stated that the operation were aimed at ridding the country of crime during the festive holidays.

He appealed for public support by urging everyone to do the policing too.

“We rely on everyone to see the crime battle won by the police,” he said.

The operation will concentrate on all forms of crime such as wanted persons, drug trafficking, illegal firearms, suspected stolen items and so on.
