The assistant headmistress and a cook of Somé Senior High School have been arrested, joining the matron and bursar, in connection with an alleged food theft ring at the institution, citinewsroom.com reports.

This brings the total number of arrests to four as the investigation into the theft of food items intended for students continues.

The initial arrests occurred on the evening of Friday, May 24, when alumni and an assembly member searched the bursar and matron as they were leaving the school premises. Food items were discovered in a bag and the trunk of a car.

Following these arrests, the assistant headmistress was also detained by police for further questioning.

The confiscated items, including tin tomatoes, mackerel, cleaning agents, and insecticide spray, among other supplies, were found in the matron’s possession.

“This has been going on for a long time, and this arrest will bring some change,” said Byron Kwakutsey Kpeli, the Senior House Master, in an interview with Citi News.

“There are mixed feelings in the school following the arrests. The police have been to the school to conduct investigations, and the storekeeper has been invited for questioning.”

The four suspects are scheduled to be arraigned on Monday, May 27, 2024.
