The Agona Swedru Circuit Court on Friday imposed a total fined of Ghc 2,280 on four commercial drivers plying their business within the Agona West Municipality for committing various traffic offences.

They are Samuel Fynn, Yaw Abeka, Isaac Anarful and Eric Ababio.

The drivers, who pleaded guilty, were convicted on their own plea and would go to prison for four months each if they failed to pay the fines.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Alfred Boatey, told the court, presided over by Mr Nathaniel Osam, that the four drivers were arrested by the personnel of the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit of the Ghana Police Service at Agona Swedru during the Christmas and New Year holidays for traffic offences.

Inspector Boatey said on January 3, 2013, Yaw Abeka, who was driving a Tico Taxi cab drove through when the traffic light showed red and was arrested at Swedru Texaco shell filling station.

He said when the driver was asked to produce his driving license he told the police that he had none.

According to the prosecution, Anarful, who gave the car to Abeka, was also charged with the offence of permitting a driver without license to drive.

Inspector Boatey said Ababio was arrested for dangerous driving while Fynn was apprehended for road obstruction.
