Four dupe unsuspecting clients in Sunyani

Sunyani, Aug. 5, GNA - The police in Sunyani are on a manhunt for

four persons and their accomplices who posed as officials of Unity Plus

Investment Company and absconded with GHC 9,970 belonging to some

clients seeking loans.

The four are Antwi Veron, manager, Khadijah Osman, secretary, Isaac

Asare, clerk and Adams, assistant manager.

Briefing the Ghana News Sunyani in Sunyani on Wednesday Assistant

Superintendent of Police Saviour Ahiamadi, the acting Brong-Ahafo

Crime Officer, said in July Veron, who posed as manager of the company,

employed eight complainants as mobile banking officials to collect

monies from clients.

He said the four suspects made the clients aware that the financial

institution would give them loans at moderate interest rate at the end of

the month.

This convinced more than 200 clients to make contributions ranging

from GHC 100 to GHC 600 to the company through the mobile banking

officers.

He said on July 27 the mobile banking officers called at the office of

the company in Sunyani and to their dismay detected that the manager,

accountant, the secretary and the other workers had bolted with all

office equipment as well as the monies collected from the loan seekers.

They reported the matter to the police who later retrieved eight pass

books belonging to customers and a receipt book that indicated that the

company had received GHC 9,970 from 49 customers.

Mr Ahiamadi said addresses and other information provided on the

customers' pass books all proved to be fake and cautioned people to be

careful about their transactions with supposed financial institutions.
