Four hundred and five million-cedi library inaugurated at Oyoko

Oyoko (Ash), Dec 06, GNA - Mr Kwabena Agyapong, the Press Secretary to the President, has said education was the best legacy that parents could bequeath their children.

He appealed to parents to give quality education to their children to enable them play positive role in the socio-economic development of Ghana.

Mr Agyapong said this at the inauguration of a 405 million-cedi library at Oyoko near Effiduase in the Sekyere East District on Monday. The library was a project funded by Plan Ghana, a non-governmental organisation (NGO).

He stressed the need for Oyoko citizens resident elsewhere to come home regularly and support the people to initiate more development projects.

Mr Agyapong pledged to liase with the people on how best to extend electricity to the library, stock it with books and also assist the community to get potable water.

Mr Douglas Titiah, Learning Advisor of Plan Ghana, said the NGO's works with 248 communities in the Eastern, Central, Upper West and Greater Accra regions and focuses on health, education, water and sanitation and micro finance for rural women. He said Plan Ghana complements the government's efforts at achieving the education for all by 2015 as envisaged by the Education Sector Strategic Plan and that it has constructed 71 pre-schools and provided furniture, teaching aids as well as training pre-school attendants.

Mr Titiah said the organization organizes in-service training course in mathematics, English and science to equip teachers with the necessary skills to enhance teaching and learning in addition to providing school pupils with textbooks, exercise books and school uniforms.

Nana Owusu Kwadwo II, chief of Oyoko, commended Mr Agyapong for being the brain behind the project and the Plan Ghana for funding the it and expressed the hope that it would help promote education in the area.
