Four jailed for writing a ghost letter

Nsuta (Ash), June 19, GNA - The Nsuta Circuit Court has sentenced four men to a total of 20 years imprisonment for conspiring to write a letter in the name of the deceased husband of Madam Mavis Aboagye, Proprietress of Mensah Sarhene International School at Asante-Mampong. In the letter they ordered her to hand over to them the school willed to her by her deceased husband.

The four, Patterson Ahenkan, grandson of Mr. Mensah Sarhene, the deceased, Kenneth and Collins Bonsu, both relatives of the deceased and one Kwame Kwabiah, pleaded guilty to charges including conspiracy to forge documents and threat of death.

Prosecuting, Mr. Kingsley Ahenkorah, Detective Chief Inspector of Police of the Mampong Municipal Police Command told the court that Mr. Mensah Sarhene, Founder of the Mensah Sarhene International School, died in 1997 and willed the school to his surviving wife, Madam Mavis Aboagye.

Collins is however on the run and a police warrant has been issued for his arrest.

He said on June 9, 2007 Ahenkan connived with the one Kwadjo Bronya, who claimed to be a spiritualist, and his other relatives including Kwabiah and wrote the letter in the name of the late Mr. Sarhene, ordering Madam Aboagye to hand over the school to them or else she would also die.

Mr Ahenkorah said after the woman had finished reading the letter, she suddenly fell unconscious and when she regained consciousness she reported the case to the Mampong police and the accused persons were arrested.
