Members of Parliament return to the House to continue parliamentary business
After a few weeks away from parliamentary business, Members of Parliament reconvene on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, for the Third Meeting of the First Session of the Ninth Parliament.
This meeting marks the final parliamentary session for 2025 and is expected to address several pertinent issues of national concern.
Here are four key items Ghanaians will be keenly following during the proceedings:
1. Revocation of LI 2462 (The Galamsey Fight)
In a renewed effort to curb illegal mining (galamsey), the government is expected to lay before the House a Legislative Instrument (LI) seeking to revoke LI 2462.
Here is when Parliament will resume sitting
This instrument currently empowers the president to authorise mining activities within forest reserves.
Its proposed revocation is regarded as a critical step toward protecting Ghana's environmental heritage.
2. The Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill
Anticipation remains high regarding the outcome of the anti-LGBTQ+ Bill.
Originally tabled during the previous NPP administration, discussions on the controversial bill reached a stalemate.
There is now high anticipation among Ghanaians that the incumbent NDC government will push for the bill's passage during this session.
3. Vetting of Chief Justice Nominee
The Appointments Committee of Parliament is scheduled to vet and consider the nomination of Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie for the position of Chief Justice.
This process is crucial as it will confirm the head of Ghana's Judiciary.
4. Presentation of the 2026 Budget
A major fixture of the session will be the presentation of the 2026 Budget Statement and Economic Policy by the Minister of Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, expected in mid-November.

The budget will outline the government's fiscal policy and economic plans for the coming year.
Among other proceedings, the swearing-in of new MPs is expected to happen.
It is worth noting that two new NDC legislators — Bernard Bediako Baidoo, Member of Parliament-elect for Akwatia, and Professor Alidu Seidu, MP-elect for Tamale Central — will be sworn in during the session.
