Subriso (Ash), Sept 08, GNA - Four people died on the spot and 13 others were injured when a cargo truck loaded with sawn lumber and passengers plunged into river "Atta Ne Atta" at the outskirts of Subriso last Friday.
The truck was heading from the Subriso forest towards Subriso near Tepa in the Ahafo-Ano North District when the accident occurred. The bodies of the deceased, Kwadwo Marfo, 30, Saaka Wangara, 35, Kwabena Danso, 25, and Bismark Abrokwah, 17, all citizens of Manfo near Tepa, have been deposited at Tepa District Hospital pending autopsy. Two of the injured persons whose conditions were critical have been transferred to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital while 11 others were treated and discharged at the Tepa Hospital.
Briefing newsmen Chief Superintendent Joseph Yaw Opoku, the District Police Commander, said the wooden bridge over the river collapsed under the weight of the cargo truck.
He said the truck broke into two and spilled the passengers into the river.
In another development, Iddrisu Mohammed, 25, and Kofi Agyare, 26, died on the spot while two others who sustained injuries were treated and discharged at the Mankranso Hospital when a cargo truck loaded with lumber boards, returning from the Tenti forest reserve near Fawoman in the Ahafo-Ano South District, ran into the ditch.
