Four persons have drowned in an attempt to rescue another person from drowning at the Bosomtwe Sam Fishing Harbour at Sekondi in the Western Region.
The four, aged between 20 and 23 years, had gone for swimming late afternoon Sunday and were returning when they saw someone drowning.
They jumped into the water in a bid to rescue him but unfortunately got drowned, an eyewitness, Kojo Mensah, told Takoradi-based Connect FM Monday morning.
The person who they were trying to rescue however survived and is receiving treatment at the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital.
The four, whose bodies were retrieved Monday morning, have been identified as Papa Assan, Egya Ackon, Evans and Juju. The bodies are currently in the morgue at the same Hospital.
They are all said to be residents of Ketan, a suburb of Sekondi.
The incident has shocked residents in the area and the Sekondi/Takoradi metropolis at large.
