Four remanded for using cocaine

Four persons were on Tuesday remanded by an Accra Circuit Court for using narcotic drugs suspected to be cocaine without lawful authority.

Joshua Pascal, a plumber, Samuel Oko, a block moulder, Humphrey Afotey, a cleaner, and Daniel Mensah, unemployed were said to have been arrested sniffing white powdered substances suspected to be cocaine.

They all pleaded not guilty to the charges but were remanded by the court presided over by Mr Aboagye Tandoh to reappear on November 30.

Prosecuting, Chief Superintendent of Police, Duuti Tuaruka told the court that the complainants are policemen stationed at Teshie, Accra, while the accused persons are also residents of Teshie.

He said on November 12, at about 1900 hours, the police had information that a group of young men had gathered in a ghetto at Adoem, sniffing cocaine and smoking Indian hemp.

The prosecution said on receipt of the information, the policemen led by the Teshie District Commander proceeded to the place.

However on seeing the police, the accused persons who were busily sniffing substances suspected to be cocaine took to their heels and in the process abandoned a white polythene bag with 24 pieces of yellow wrappers containing white powdered substance suspected to be cocaine.
