Tema, March 13, GNA - The police in Ada, in the Dangme East District have arrested four women for smuggling 100 full pieces of wax prints into the country through the Ada estuary. They are Lucky Adeta 28, Faith Nanewortor 27, Afi Tsuglo 40, and Doris Amega 40 who have been placed in custody pending investigations. Briefing newsmen in Tema on Tuesday, Police Chief Inspector Yaw Nketia-Yeboah, Tema Regional Public Affairs Officer, said acting on a tip-off, the Ada police went on patrol duties at the estuary of the River Volta on March 8.

He said while on duty the police saw some people in a boat and they chased them but some managed to escape leaving the four women behind with whom the textiles were found.

Chief Inspector Nketia-Yeboah reminded the public, especially traders that the law prohibiting the trading of wax prints through the Eastern Corridor of the Ghana-Togo border was still in force. He said smuggling was a serious offence and that any body caught would be dealt with according to the laws of the land saying that the influx of foreign textiles was collapsing the local textile industries and warned that ignorance was no excuse of the law. 13 March 07
