Kumasi, June 1, GNA - Four employees of Danny Praise Computers in Kumasi were on Tuesday remanded in custody by a Kumasi circuit court for allegedly embezzling 200 million cedis belonging to the company. Magdalene Agyapong, Felix Adjei, Emmanuel Duah Boakye and Joshua Yaw Oduro, are alleged to have manipulated the company's records to embezzle the amount.
They pleaded not guilty and will re-appear before the court, presided over by Mr Richard Kogyapwah, on June seven. Prosecuting, Police Superintendent William Awuvey told the court that, Magdalene worked as a secretary while the other three were technicians at the Asafo branch office of the company.
He said it was the secretary's duty to feed the computer with the company's daily transactions, but in her absence it could be recorded in books by any of the other three accused persons.
Superintendent Awuvey said last year while the secretary was absent from duty, the transactions were recorded in books to be transferred into the computer later.
On her return the secretary recorded not all of the data and backdated those she keyed in.
Superintendent Awuvey said the action of the secretary paved the way for the other accused persons to carry out dubious transactions and succeeded in stealing some computers and accessories valued at 245,225,000 cedis.
He said a witness in the case alerted the managing director who ordered an audit of the records, leading to the revelation of the theft.
