Fourth Republic activities begin on December 31

Accra, Dec. 22, GNA - Activities marking eleven years of the Fourth Republic begins on Wednesday, December 31, 2003 with a nationwide broadcast on radio and television by President J.A Kufuor, the Information Services Department (ISD) has announced.

An ISD statement signed by Mr D.A Kwapong, acting director, said there would be Muslim prayers in all mosques throughout the country on Friday, January 2, 2004 and an all-night musical show at the Independence Square later in the evening at which some of Ghana's top musicians will feature.

On Sunday, January 4, Christian service will be held for the nation in all churches.

The highlight of the celebration will be the People's Assembly on January 8, at the Accra International Conference Centre at which President John Agyekum Kufuor will be the special guest of honour, according to the statement.

It will be preceded by a photo exhibition of both the public and private sectors at the foyer of the Conference Centre.

An all night prayer session comes off at the Independence Square on Friday, January 9, which will be attended by all churches in the country.

This would be followed by fun games on Saturday, January 10, at the El-Wak Stadium, featuring the Majority and Minority in Parliament, market women and the security services.

A super gospel rock show will be staged at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, January 18, 2004.

The statement explained that People's Assemblies will be held in all the regional capitals and the districts from January 8 to 22, 2004.
