Rev Fr Andrew Campbell is founder of the Campbell SVD Foundation
Founder of the Campbell SVD Foundation, Rev Fr Andrew Campbell, has spoken candidly about the hidden challenges of priestly life.
He stated loneliness, confidentiality burdens, and constant financial pressure as some of his greatest struggles.
Speaking on Channel One TV’s Upside Down Show on May 24, 2026, the renowned Catholic priest disclosed that priests often carry heavy personal and emotional burdens but are constrained by the confidential nature of their ministry from sharing them openly.

“Sometimes it’s loneliness, you know, you feel you’re on your own. You’re told so many things, and you can’t talk about it,” he said.
Fr Campbell explained that in such moments, he turns to prayer for strength and guidance.
“It goes back to your prayer life. Everything goes back to prayer. God gives us the answer in prayer,” he noted.
Beyond emotional challenges, the priest detailed the wide range of social and economic problems he encounters daily, from marital disputes and school fees to housing issues and financial hardships within communities.
He says he currently supports children and persons living with leprosy, providing them with food, medication, and general upkeep.

“I have to take care of them… and where do I get the money for that?” he asked.
Fr Campbell added that he relies heavily on donations and goodwill from individuals and organisations to sustain his extensive humanitarian work.
“I ask people, please, can you help me?” he appealed, adding that many respond because of the proven impact of his foundation’s projects.
He noted that funding is constantly needed for medical care, school fees, rent, and even hospital renovations, placing continuous financial pressure on his charitable efforts.
