Grabbing of State Lands by NPP Gov’t

Monitoring Desk Report

Though in the know that the Law of Trust debars trustees from benefiting from properties they hold on behalf of, and in trust for people, Mr. Frank Agyekum, the spokesperson for former President, John Agyekum Kufuor, strangely ignores this astute law to the detriment of the good people of Ghana.

Speaking on Radio Gold, an Accra-based station last Tuesday 12th June, 2012, Mr. Frank Agyekum, who was not known for goofs and greed, has suddenly been taken over by excessive trait of the aforementioned features, seemingly inherited from the NPP’s spin doctors.

Defending the indefensible, even though, Frank Agyekum hinted that he has no knowledge of the purchase of the 1.4 acre land at Residency Link at Ridge Residential Area in Kumasi for GH¢4, 000 by his boss (Kufuor), he did justify the acquisition of the land by his boss.

Obviously protecting his job, Mr. Frank Agyekum, to the surprise of Ghanaians, asserted that once his employer went through the due process to acquire the above-mentioned property, there was absolutely nothing wrong with it.

According to him, there would be a problem with the purchase of the land in question, if it had not gone through the due process; totally ridiculing the provision as specified in Chapter Twenty-One; Article 257 (1) of the 1992 Constitution that has clearly vested in the President, the obligation to hold in trust, and on behalf of the people of Ghana, all public lands and natural resources in Ghana.

Asked if he knew that Nana Akufo-Addo had rejected similar offer in the past, he said that it was dependent on the individual.

Mr. Agyekum says, his boss saw the offer as a glorious opportunity, and as such, did not reject it.

However, intelligence gathered within the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has it that, the top hierarchy of the party is not happy with the submission of Nana Akomea, in his attempt to justify the grabbing of state lands and properties by NPP apparatchiks.

Credible information also has it that, some party elders were not happy at all with former President John Agyekum Kufuor’s inordinate quest for state assets.

Horrifying to them, was the price at which he grabbed the said land at the Ridge Residential Area in Kumasi.

In fact, the ma-te mehu party in Ghana would have, by now, been selling that part of the Atlantic ocean in Ghana's territory to themselves had the good people of Ghana retained it in power in 2008.

Below is part of the list of the people who took part in the state-land grab in Kumasi to the detriment of Ghanaians
