Fraudster sentenced to six years imprisonment

A 50-year-old man who swindled a trader of her GH¢7,880.00 under the guise of securing jobs at the Newmont Mining Company for her two sons, has been sentenced to six years imprisonment by a Kumasi Circuit Court.

Osei Wusu pleaded guilty to the crime.

Police Chief Inspector Sylvanus D’Almeida told the court presided over by Mr Emmanuel Amo-Yartey that the complainant, Madam Mary Frimpong is a trader and that the convict had been buying shoes from her. He said in March, this year, Osei presented himself as a top ranking official of Newmont, who could get people employed at the mine.

Madam Frimpong expressed her desire to get her two sons employed there, upon which the convict demanded the amount for their accommodation and other arrangements.

She readily gave the money to him, but Osei returned again after some days to demand an additional GH¢2,000.00.

She became suspicious and made a formal report to the police leading to his arrest and the retrieval of GH¢1,800.00 out of the amount he collected.
