Maverick lawmaker of Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong is skeptical about the sustainability of the 275 buses promised each constituency by the Acting National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Blay.
He disclosed that if he is gifting them the buses it will be better than claiming he wants to make it a revenue generation avenue for the constituencies to recollecting that a similar gesture was extended by current Minister for Trade and Industry, John Alan Kwadwo Kyremanteng that generated confusion at the various constituencies.
“I have not heard about it but those at the constituencies how better have they been able to run their lives? Common pick-up vehicles they are unable to manage them properly how much buses…allow us some breathing space”, he disclosed on Adom TV’s Badwam on Tuesday.
Mr Kennedy Agyapong who disclosed he does not habour any fear in speaking the truth said Mr Freddie Blay is his senior stressed that it does not make any business sense for him to engage in such a venture.
“The executives won’t be able to maintain the buses. I would rather urge him to invest the money in other things. It won’t work, Freddie Blay was my senior in school but I will tell him this is not a good business idea as a business minded person”, he insisted.
“If he wants to dash the vehicles to them I agree but to give a vehicle to 17 executives to run as a transport business is not going to work. I know them than my clothes I am worrying”, he stated.
It would be recalled that Mr Freddie Blay on Accra-based Asempa FM, promised he was gifting the buses is for each constituency to help them raise funds for operations at the local level.
“I am supplying buses to all the constituency branches of the NPP. Each constituency will receive a bus from me personally for commercial purposes just to raise money for party activities.”
When he was asked where he will get the money to purchase the buses, he said: “When you are resourceful, you will be able to do that. You don’t need to do that from your own pockets, no, you can’t do it that way; as a politician, you need to be resourceful and be able to raise funds for activities of such kind.” He was quoted promising on the show.
There have been varying reactions to the viability of the promise and whether it will serve its intended purpose by a section of the party.
