Free SHS: Our common fund having breathing space – Karbo

Member of Parliament (MP) for Lawra Constituency, Anthony Abayifaa Karbo has said the common fund of Members of Parliament is having a breathing space for other projects just because of the introduction of the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy by the NPP government.

According to him, the common fund will now be used for other projects which will go a long way to benefit the constituents.

He said the President took the ‘bull by the horn’ to introduce his flagship programme, therefore, those who are opposing the policy which is aimed at serving the public good will be in shame and regret in future.

“Throughout history, the certain fate of those who oppose in bad faith and malice initiatives aimed at serving the public good has always been a future of shame and regret,” he noted.

“And I say, with every fibre of conviction in me, that those who today will oppose the Free SHS Policy introduced by His Excellency the President would not escape this certain fate.”

Anthony Karbo who was speaking at the 50th anniversary of Lawra Senior High School stated some people opposed the establishment of Secondary School and even when the school faced its initial challenges those people were eager to point out as evidence of vindication for their opposition.

“We are gathered here to celebrate the 50th anniversary of a great school which has nurtured countless sons and daughters of Lawra, to honour the work of those great men of vision who fifty years ago had the foresight to build Lawra Senior High School and commend, as well, the efforts of those who came after them in sustaining and improving the structures they inherited.”

“It cannot be doubted that fifty years ago when the vision to establish a Secondary School was born there were some people who stood opposed to the idea. There certainly were those people who felt Lawra was not ready, prepared or resourced enough to have a secondary school” he added.

Mr Karbo believes that such people will be looking back with regret and shame at their initial position because they would see a successful Senior High School, which has trained countless men and women of great repute and brought enormous honour to the land which we all love.
