A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) communications team, Ellen Ama Daaku, has stated that one of President Nana Akufo-Addo's greatest legacies is his investment in the Free SHS policy.

Speaking on TV3 on January 2, 2025, she explained that the Free Senior High School Programme introduced by the NPP government had brought a lot of hope to Ghanaians.

“One of the things that the President would be noted for would be education and through his ministers of education,” she said.

Also recognising the role of Akufo-Addo's appointees in making the Free SHS policy successful, Ellen Daaku emphasised the pivotal role played by former Minister of Education, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO), in advocating for the establishment of the programme.

She further highlighted the contributions of the outgoing Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Adutwum, to the development of STEM schools in the country.

“His second education minister being Dr. Adutwum, pushing for the STEM schools, pushing for us to get our children to be more critical thinkers instead of all of us.

“What we went through in education, where we're learning everything, we do often forget, and all the stuff that they are trying to push for their children in education. In terms of STEM, for me, I believe the future is STEM. And the next government should also continue", she stated.

The NPP communicator also expressed confidence that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) manifesto shows they plan to continue these efforts, strengthening her belief that one of Akufo-Addo’s biggest achievements is in education.

"When you read the NDC manifesto, it looks like they will continue with it. So, for me, one of his greatest achievements would be in education. And then the second one would be the digitalization of our economy and pushing us to also move into the fourth industrial revolution," she noted.

Another area she identified as a key achievement of Akufo-Addo’s administration is the digitalization of Ghana’s economy.

"Yes, this government went through quite a lot with COVID and everything, but from what I pick from the Finance minister and the little conversations I've had, we seem to have ended last year on a growth of about 7 point something percent. And that is, that is, I mean, far, far better than when we went through two, three years ago when at certain points we're actually in the negatives.

So, for me, I think that with the economy and everything that has happened, this president and his presidency have done well," she noted.
