Frequent election reruns undermining confidence - Election Watch Ghana

Election Watch Ghana has raised alarm over the increasing number of election reruns in constituencies such as Kpandai, warning that the trend is draining public funds and eroding trust in the electoral process.

In a statement released on Thursday, December 11, 2025, the watchdog organisation said the frequency of repeat polls points to shortcomings within Ghana’s election administration system. It stressed that the neutrality and professionalism of election officials are fundamental to delivering credible outcomes.

The group noted that the recurring disputes and subsequent reruns reflect deeper operational and managerial weaknesses within the Electoral Commission, and urged urgent structural improvements.

Election Watch Ghana also appealed to political parties, particularly the NPP and NDC, to fully engage in the upcoming Kpandai by-election, saying broad participation enhances democratic legitimacy.

It further called on the Electoral Commission to strengthen its procedures, strictly comply with electoral laws, and improve transparency throughout the electoral cycle. The organisation said fixing administrative lapses is essential to preventing avoidable repeat elections.

The statement ended by urging citizens, civil society organisations, and all political stakeholders to support reforms that fortify Ghana’s electoral system and rebuild public confidence in democratic institutions.
