Most fuel stations in Accra and Tema have no petrol and long queues are forming at the few stations, which still have stock. Station attendants are having a difficult time controlling the teeming numbers of drivers who are eager to fill up their tanks. Reports reaching JOY FM indicate that the situaion is the same in other parts of the country, amidst fears that the fuel shortage could persist for the next two day.
Motorists, who have queued at the stations with limited supplies, told JOY FM that they have been roaming for the past 24 hours but have not been able to fill their tanks.
Meanwhile, the Energy Ministry has explained that the fuel shortage has come about because of the late arrival of a vessel transporting the product into the country. Energy Minister Kan Dapaah told JOY FM that bad weather delayed the arrival of the vessel.
He says petrol is being transported across the country currently but there are some problems with supplies to the Northern Region. The Energy Minister said it would be unneceasary for cautious drivers to hoard the product in anticipation of a long period of shortage.
