Fuel price stability remains government priority - NPA CEO

Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Godwin Edudzi Tameklo, has assured players in the petroleum sector that the government remains committed to maintaining stability in the fuel pricing regime despite rising tensions in global energy markets.

Speaking at an exclusive breakfast meeting hosted by the NPA for chief executives in the downstream petroleum industry in Accra on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, Tameklo said recent government interventions in the pricing structure were carefully designed to cushion businesses against external shocks.

“Government interventions over the past two windows (GH¢2.00 per litre on diesel and GH¢36 per litre on petrol) and the next two windows (GH¢1.07 per litre on diesel) were well thought through, with the risks to your businesses very well considered,” he stated.

The meeting formed part of the Authority’s efforts to strengthen stakeholder engagement, improve the regulatory framework, and promote networking aimed at achieving strategic growth within the downstream petroleum sector.

Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr John Abdulai Jinapor, also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring the uninterrupted supply of petroleum products to support economic growth and stability.

Participants at the meeting agreed on a number of measures expected to help grow and sustain the downstream petroleum industry.

The event was attended by the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Deputy Minister for Energy and Green Transition Richard Gyan-Mensah, Deputy Chief Executive of the NPA Dr Sheila Addo, as well as members of the Authority’s Executive Committee.
