The Police have arrested a 26-year-old suspect driver, Tanko Mohammed for allegedly Killing a Police Officer, No. 33736 General Sergent William Serworkpor, at the Asamankese to Kade main road of the Eastern Region on November 2016.

The fugitive, according to the Public Relations Officer of the Eastern Regional Police Command, DSP Ebenezer Tetteh, was arrested at Achimota on May 19, 2018, after almost two years of being on Police wanted list. He is currently in the custody of the Akwatia Police being prepared to be put before court on Tuesday, May 22, 2018.

The suspect, believed to be the ringleader of robbery syndicate, who was being trailed by the Akwatia Police including the deceased over suspected robbery run over the deceased Police officer with his vehicle when he signalled him to stop at Awaham Tent City junction.

According to the Police, on that fateful day, Police at Akwatia had distress information that some robbers had snatched a Vehicle and were speeding off to Kade.

When the dispatched police team arrived at the scene, they spotted the stolen vehicle at Awaham Junction around 4:30 p.m. and Sgt Sowakpor signaled the driver to stop but he refused and instead run over Sgt Sowakpor, who died on the spot.

The Police team pursued the robbers and managed to arrest one of them but the suspect driver arrested now, abandoned the stolen Vehicle and managed to escape.

A search conducted in the Vehicle by police retrieved armed robbery implements such as a hammer, machetes, as well as a quantity of stolen mobile phones.
